Alfred E. Bike was founded in 1972 by Douglas Stevenson and Bernadine Baisch in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. We have served the community for over 35 years and are still just a few blocks from our original location. Where did the name Alfred E. Bike come from? Perhaps a co-founder that was a little bit too into MAD Magazine as a child...

Meet the Staff
Still running the day-to-day operations of the shop for nearly 40 years, he has been the driving force behind Alfred E. Bike and its most recognizable staff member. The knowledge gained by being the shop's main wrench during the nascent years still comes in handy, and he is equally at ease on the showroom floor, the workshop, or the back office. Over the years Doug has been an avid marathon runner and triathlete, most notably completing the Florida Ironman in 2008.
The son of Doug and Bernie, Cullen has taken an increasing role in the operations of the shop since 2002, when he had the bright idea that its web page should have some products for sale. That rudimentary website has seen several major improvements since that time and its maintenance and daily administration is Cullen's full-time job. He is also usually the person reading and responding to all e-mails. His casual interest in cycling became more serious in 2010 and is now a frequent road rider and fledgling triathlete.
"You can find me at the local coffee shop reading the New York Times on any Sunday. I prefer comedies over dramas and enjoy a good bottle of wine... wait, wrong website! To date I have packaged over 50,000 boxes and taken thousands of phone calls. Chances are if you've spoken to a female, it was me. I am in charge of out-going shipping, keeping our showroom stocked and sparkly clean, and product warranties."
