Great riding spots around Kalamazoo

Posted by Cullen on 5/22/2013 to General

Kalamazoo River Valley Trail and the Kal-Haven Trail

These two trails cover more than 50 miles of paved and crushed-limestone path that go all the way from Comstock, through downtown Kalamazoo, to the South Haven just blocks from the shores of Lake Michigan.

The Kal-Haven Trail starts just northwest of Kalamazoo on 10th street (right where the KRVT's main branch ends) and is approximately 40 miles of flat terrain on crushed limestone. This is a great for hybrid or trail bikes, and can be anything from an hour's excursion to an overnight trip to South Haven.
The KRVT has an additional branch that winds north of downtown through the beautiful Nature Center Preserve, about 9 miles one way. It is paved and safe, and appropriate for any level of rider. It's a great way to spend the afternoon.

Al Sabo Preserve

Al Sabo is a 741 acre preserve with 25 miles of trail. Most of the trails are dedicated to hiking and trail running, but approximately 7 miles of trail are great for mountain biking. The path is only moderately technical and is a good place for beginner and intermediate mountain bikers.
