We are now in the best riding weather of the year in southwest Michigan: October! Not too hot, not too chilly - just right. The only catch is, the days are getting too short. Even it it is still 70 degrees out at 7 pm, it can be too dark to ride safely.

Winter is showing signs of thawing and at AEBike that means that it's time to get ready for the coming riding season. Our favorite new tradition is the shop design contest, where our customers and fans who have an artistic bent create the design that we display, sell, and wear for the year. This is our third year holding a design contest and our second year doing a fan-designed jersey.

For the past few years we have sponsored annual design contests where we ask our customers to contribute designs for shop t-shirts and jerseys. This post will highlight previous winners and will hopefully provide inspiration to future designers!

There’s a reason why they’re called fat bikes - beefy frames with colossal tires, and in an industry obsessed with shedding weight, fat bikes are a breath of fresh air. Here at Alfred E. Bike we carry a few different brands...

The Apple Cider Century went so well, so Kristin and I decided to do another hundred mile ride. Since Kristin is from Indiana she suggested the Hilly Hundred. Needless to say we signed up, not really knowing what to expect. Yes, "Hilly" is in the name of the ride; I envisioned beautiful rolling hills, maybe one or two steep climbs, but mostly rolling hills.…boy was I wrong.

This summer my friend / riding partner Kristin and I dedicated ourselves to becoming better, tougher, faster riders. In order to achieve our goal we started logging in 100+ mile weeks full of long rides, hilly rides, and fast rides. Some generous fellows on Team CMS went out of their way to mentor us. They taught us how to ride in a group, to draft properly, to really push ourselves, and each week Kristin and I saw improvement. The Monday rides became a tad easier, and we were able to average 17-19 easily.
A couple of months ago I picked up a flier for the Apple Cider Century, read the whole thing, and immediately called Kristin to tell her that “We are doing this”.

One of the many exciting aspects of the bike industry is the annual trade show — Interbike — currently held in September in Las Vegas.
Open to dealers only, it is a great time to see and touch the newest cool gear, to say hi to industry colleagues, maybe get to ride some awesome new bikes, and to take in some best practices seminars. Sometimes a dealer can see a cycling celebrity. This year Miguel Indurain was an honored VIP at one of the trade booths. He of course won the Tour de France each year from 1991 through 1995.
What were the hottest ideas this year ? I have worked up a list of my favorites.

I don’t have the typical black oblong seat bag on my bicycle. Mine is a hamburger. Yes a hamburger. Some people ask why. I respond: why not?
At first my seat bag choice was to get a few laughs out of people I don’t know on group rides. I did get a lot of laughs and even a shout-out at the beginning of the Monday night ride. At one moment when I was standing around waiting for the ride to begin, 40-50 people looked at my seat bag and started laughing. A few people...
